  Town  Government

Note From The Town Supervisor - Matthew McAndrew

WELCOME to our website.  The Town of Ellicottville's southwest corner lies near the geographical center of the county and was formed from the Town of Ischua by an act of the Legislature on April 13, 1820.  The Town took its name from the Village of Ellicottville, which was first settled in 1815.  The organization of Cattaraugus County and the designation of Ellicottville (Village) as the County Seat occurred on March 28, 1817.

Ellicottville, as the County Seat and office location of the Holland Land Company, was a first place where land parcels were sold and deeds were filed.  It became an important agricultural center as well.  After the Industrial Revolution, Ellicottville became a center of manufacturing of wood products and lumber, furniture both home and office, lockers, baseball bat billets, hand tools, straight razors, scissors and knives.  The Town of Ellicottville is fortunate that manufacturing jobs remain in the area today.

Recently, the Town is better known from becoming a year-round tourist destination.  Holiday Valley is a leading four-season resort; a conference center; and Holimont is one of the world's largest ski clubs.  In addition to skiing and snowboarding, the area offers golf, swimming, hiking, hunting, mountain biking, fishing, and many other attractions.  Entertainment, shopping, and a variety of accommodations and fine restaurants are also nearby.

Thank you for virtually visiting, and I hope you get the opportunity  to come enjoy Ellicottville.
